Attendance Tracker
Whether or not you have to submit a homeschool attendance record to meet your state’s requirements, there are a number of reasons why it is still beneficial to keep a record of school days.
I like to use the attendance log to keep a record of each day that we actually sit down to work on our curriculum books. Although I still consider field trip days or days spent at classes outside our home as “school days”, I also like to know how many days we spent doing our actual curriculum. Not only does this help me stay consistent in using our curriculum, but it also gives me an idea of how many school days to plan for when I start to think about the next school year.
Daily Rhythm Sheet
Our daily rhythm, or daily schedule, is a loose snapshot of what our typical school day looks like.
For our family of 1 second grader, 1 first grader, and one preschooler, our daily rhythm looks something like this:
8-9 am: Wake up, get ready, make breakfast, my Bible and devotion time
9:00 am: Family style learning including Bible, history, & science
9:45-10:30 am: Preschooler goes off to play and I individually work with my 1st & 2nd graders on reading & math, while they also independently work on handwriting, grammar, & spelling.
10:30-10:50 am: Preschool time while older kids finish their independent work or go play.
11:00 am: Lunch time
Having this general flow of our day and knowing about how long it takes us to get through everything really helps keep us on track and lets the kids know what is expected of them.
Daily, Weekly & Monthly Calendar Sheets
I like to use a daily planner to help plan my goals for each day. I write down what I want to accomplish in school, things I need to get done around the house, and any appointments or activities we need to go to outside of the home. Jotting down times that I need to start prepping meals and what we plan to have also helps keep me on track.
A weekly planner is great for seeing your week-at-a-glance. Knowing everything we have coming up that week helps me to plan out our lessons to avoid any conflict or rushing around. Reducing the amount of stress in our day helps keep our homeschool days peaceful. I can also jot down goals I need to accomplish on certain days of the week, meals and grocery lists, as well as anything I need to keep in mind ahead of time to prepare for the week. Weekly planning pages are so helpful in keeping us on track with our school year goals.
Monthly Calendar sheets are so helpful in keeping all of my days conflict free and scheduled at the most connivence for our family. This is where I keep track of birthdays, parties, practices, classes, doctor appointments, co-op days, field trips, and everything else I need to know at a glance. As a family of 7, having monthly planner pages is essential for getting everyone where they need to be and also keeping our priorities in check.
Daily & Weekly Lesson Planning Pages
This is the place where I specifically keep track of our daily lessons for each child, as well as weekly curriculum goals. I start by planning out what we need to cover that week, then break down each day into manageable chunks of curriculum to achieve those goals. Since we don’t do every single subject every day of the week, it helps to see an overall weekly goal of what we will cover, then break that down even further into specific daily lessons. It also helps to jot down any school supplies you will need for the week, so you can plan ahead!
Curriculum Planning Sheets
I absolutely love having curriculum planning sheets built into my own planner. One of my favorite parts of homeschooling is planning out a budget and goals for the next school year. Even if you’re not excited about this aspect of homeschooling, using these sheets will help you stay on track for what you need to order, plan out a budget, and compare options to find the best fit.
Having this quick reference sheet on hand allows you to keep an eye out for sales that will help your curriculum goals align better with your budget. You can also keep track of what you have purchased, what you still need to look for, and notes about aspects you like and dislike.
